Over the last few days, there's been a fascinating ad on my Facebook page - on the right, with the paid ads. It reads as follows:
Burberry Beauty
[photo of red lipstick with a grey, subtly plaid box]
Exclusively at NORDSTROM. Get the stormy eyes and sun-dappled skin that define the effortlessly elegant Burberry look.
I'd like to mark this up and comment on it:
Burberry Beauty (um, okay)
[photo of red lipstick with a grey, subtly plaid box] (I like the box, though it's a bit gloomy. London fog, as it were)
Exclusively at NORDSTROM. (Well, no, that's not true; it's easily bought online on Burberry's website...)
Get the stormy eyes (...which includes plenty of pastels, but only a few that would make one's eyes look stormy.)
and sun-dappled skin (What? Burberry sells foundation, but how on earth does one achieve a "sun-dappled look" with it?)
that define the effortlessly elegant Burberry look. (This strikes me as hilarious - the "effortlessly elegant Burberry look" is so clunky as a phrase! It's like something out of Danielle Steel. Also, despite their best attempts, I still associate Burberry with raincoats and scarves. Nice ones, but not "effortlessly elegant" - and if it's effortless, does one really need makeup?)

Also: does the "effortlessly elegant" shopper really need NORDSTROM in caps? All-caps doesn't seem to match the Burberry image.
And why, if the text mentions skin and "stormy eyes", is the photo of lipstick? Because last time I checked, "stormy eyes" and red lipstick are more Taylor Momsen than Burberry.
