Runaround Sue

If Runaround Sue ran around with every single guy in town already, why does Dion bother to write the song? Wouldn't they all know already?

87 seconds

I've spent a while this afternoon looking at Dylan Marron's Every Single Word project, which is amazing. Go check it out. I'd seen a few clips before but hadn't made time to look at all of it. There were so many clips with no words spoken by people of color at all, and so many with just a couple of lines, that when I got to Juno, 87 seconds of content with a person of color - one who helped to shape the course of the story - felt exciting and expansive.
87 seconds isn't exciting and expansive. 87 seconds in a movie is maybe 2% of the content, probably more like 1.5%. I can't even imagine how it would feel to be an actor of color, trying for roles and knowing how many mainstream Hollywood movies won't even offer a speaking part at all.

go Gamecocks!

While I was checking in on the Mississippi State/South Carolina national championship game for women's basketball, I saw this update on the NCAA website:
"South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley subs outs all five on the floor. Her players deserve the floor time. Mississippi State's head coach Vic Schaefer does the same. Nice, classy moves from these SEC coaches."
I got weepy. Dawn Staley is just the greatest. Both teams had a great tournament, so that was an excellent way to end it.
